Reading is great for all ages as it enhances many skills in the listener and reader.  Reading helps to build vocabulary, listening skills, and memory.  It also helps to increase social and emotional development as parents express the different emotions and feelings displayed in the book, teaching empathy at an early age.  Additionally, reading helps to build connections in relationships.  It is a time where babies and children get their mom and/or dad’s undivided attention - no tv, no phone, no distractions.

Ramp up your reading this summer by taking a virtual trip to your local libraries!  Due to our current situation, libraries are not open to the public, but you can take this time to explore all of their virtual services.  There are virtual reading sessions, trivia nights, and summer reading programs.  You can still check out books--call your local library to find out about their curbside services and their online catalogs.  If you don’t have a library card, don’t worry, just call your local library to speak with the librarian and let the adventure begin!  Mom and dad, don’t forget to pick up something for yourself.  When your child sees you reading, you become their reading role model.   Need book ideas?
